Balance Window Springs For Single and Double Hung windows.
Replacement window springs used on many single hung and double hung windows with compression tilt jamb jamb liners. Each spring will come with a Clip as shown in picture. Clip is removable if you do not need it on your window.Due to the multiple sizes springs come in we do not stock springs. All springs are special order with a 2-4 week lead time. NO RETURNS for springs as they are special order/made to your order.Spring is 3/8" Diameter outside to outsideThe spring gauge or tension is as follows and is commonly associated with these color tips on the springs themselves: Red .041, Green .044, Yellow .047, Black .048, Purple .051To Order By Spring Length Inches : Measure from tip of Eyelet to tip of Eyelet on spring. (Eyelet is the round bent out part of the spring located at both ends).To know what color gauge and length to order: you will need to remove the springs from the jamb liner. Most Springs are color coded at one end with paint. Please watch both how to videos below that show how to remove the jamb liners from your window/reinstall and how to remove and replace the springs.
You can also use the chart in the pictures as a guide on which gauge to order (chart is for Hurd Wood/clad windows) other brand windows lengths or gauge of the springs can vary. so ordering a longer spring than needed is recommended and you can cut it to the length you need.
You can also determine gauge of a spring using a spring wire gauge, pocket wire gauge, or a math formula:
Spring wire gauge: Insert the gauge into the spring and count 20 coils. Then, look at the gauge markings to find the wire size.
Pocket wire gauge: Match the coils on the spring to the correct wire size key in the gauge.
Math formula: Count 20 coils of the spring and measure their length in inches. Then, divide the measurement by 20 to determine the wire size
Pro Tip: If the Springs are old and maybe a little stretched out it is better to order springs longer then you need as you can cut the springs shorter if needed by using a pair of Wire Cutters or Cable Cutters. Then you can bend out the eyelet with pair of regular pliers and flat head screw driver. See demonstration video below.Lead Time: Due to the multiple sizes springs come in we do not stock springs. 119 is the Operator Only - You will need to purchase the cover and handle kit part number 137 sold separately.
Manufacture Details: Encore Operators give you all the strength and performance characteristics of Maxim, but with the flexibility of a snap-fit cover and streamlined full-flip folding handle that eliminates collapse during operation. Encore Operators require 33% less effort to operate than previous operators and are designed to use the same mounting location as the Maxim system. Stainless steel components are available for coastal applications. These operators complement the Encore Multi-Point Locking System.

Manufacture Tech Note: Proper Installation of an Operator Cover & Nested Folding Handle. When installing the cover and handle on the operator you should follow theseinstructions:• Snap the cover onto the operator base.• Place the handle onto the spline of the operator and rotate the handle to closethe window.• Lock the window in place.• Rotate the handle Ľ turn back (towards opening direction) to reduce thepressure on the operator.• If the handle needs to be positioned in a nested cover you can remove thehandle at this time and re-position it so that it will rest correctly in the nestedcover.• Tighten the set screw on the handle.• Unlock the window and cycle the sash open and closed until the handle returnsto the starting position whereby there is no additional torque required to close the sash. Note: the sash should travel to a point that the lock can easily engageand seal the window.• If the window does not come all the way into the closed position, and more forceis required on the operator to close the window, you will need to review thewindow for the following; sash sag; racked window; lock points that are notproperly aligned; or hinges not installed correctly. These issues should becorrected prior to repeating the installation of the handle onto the operatorspline.Placing the operator and the handle under high stress and abusive loads can causepermanent failures to the handle or operator as the window is repeatedly opened andclosed.
